Today I'm sharing the wedding quilt I made for my quilting niece. Steph loves to quilt and over the years has made many wonderful quilts. When her wedding was announced I asked her Mum for colour ideas and was told she "doesn't need any more quilts"!!! As her Mum is not a quilter, she just doesn't understand that we can never have enough quilts!
Steph loves purple. She always has and I decided to include a bit, not a lot of purple in her quilt. I used the Metro Rings pattern from Sew Kind of Wonderful. A bundle of hand dyed fat quarters and some solid navy fabric and the quilt was underway.
The rulers make sewing these melons quite quick and easy.
I had a number of blocks built and arranged on the display wall, and decided I needed to finish off the rings to make the quilt more even. So had to make a few more blocks for the bottom row.
The melons on the blocks are made with strips of fabrics cut using the curved ruler. Easy to stitch and cut. I had leftover strip sets so was able to add to the quilt size by adding a border of these fabrics.
The backing was Fireside from Trend-Tex Fabrics in purple! This polyester fabric is 60" wide and is so beautiful for quilting. The stitching design shows very well, although I can't find any pictures of the quilting on the back. Steph-If you are reading this can you take and send me a picture of the back of your quilt?
I decided to use the Handi Quilter Pro-Stitcher for this quilt and chose Splendor Double Wedding Ring set from Karen Thompson. It was a great design to stitch in the melons and the border. I used superior Thread's OMNI_V #9019 Lydia in both the needle and the bobbin. The variegation of the thread is very subtle and adds a bit of texture to the quilt.
I was able to use some of the leftover strips of fabric to make the binding.
And who can resist sharing this little fellow helping with the bag ribbon!
