Thursday Threads - Which one to use?

I just needed to quilt something this week! I had completed all my customer quilts and needed to add a border to a large quilt of mine. I didn't feel like working on the quilt border, so I dug through the "to be quilted at some point" box. In this box I put sample quilts and quilt tops my Mum gives me to quilt when I get around to it. I pull this lovely quilt of Mum's out of the box and since it was bundled with the backing, it was ready to go. I pulled out Superior Threads' OMNI-V #9021 Mystic and thought it would be a good choice. It wasn't until I did some test stitching, that I realised there was a lot of purple in this thread colour. I switched to #9011 Philodendron and it was the per

Thursday Thread - New from Superior Threads

Check out these new threads I just got into the studio from Superior Threads. I was at an all day training session last week and got to play and learn! I've decided to offer some Superior Thread Classes in the next few months for those who want to learn about the great range of threads for Domestic and Longarm machines. The class is a "thread tasting". You supply your domestic machine with all attachments and the instruction manual. I'll supply the thread (for tasting) and fabrics to play with. I'll spend some time 30-45 minutes talking about the different threads and giving you some ideas for use and you'll spend the rest of the 3 hours "tasting" the threads! You'll get to play with my v

Thursday Thread - MicroQuilter

This week on Thursday Thread I'm showing you some detailed stitching using Superior's MicroQuilter thread. MicroQuilter is a 100wt extra-fine polyester thread designed for detail quilting, invisible machine applique and stitch in the ditch. I had planned to do some detail quilting on the snow dyed whole cloth quilt, but started with the MicroQuilter and it worked so well, I continued. This very fine thread can create super tiny stitches and micro stitching. The bobbin is a size M for comparison. I started with MicroQuilter 7006 Champagne, and used my rulers to stitch the area segments. The details were stitched with MicroQuilter 7014, Baby Pink. I'll have a more detailed blog post when this

Thursday Thread - OMNI-V

It's Thursday and I've promised myself to write a blog post each week to highlight some of the threads I use in my studio. This week I've been working with Superior's OMNI-V. The thread is approximately 40wt and is a poly-wrapped poly core thread. This means that there is a single strand of polyester running though the centre. This makes it a strong thread with less shredding. The "V" stands for variegated and is in one inch colour changes. The OMNI-V thread worked beautifully on my longarm and also on my domestic for all my cover construction. I really do like how this thread stitches. I had some extra time and backing fabric left on my quilting frame, so I added a scrap of batting and a
