hq class 1A turning flimsies into quilts
HQ Virtual - 1A - I'M DONE PIECING - NOW WHAT?

Everyone can learn something new in this basic class – whether you’ve only pieced quilt tops or have finished a whole stack of quilts. Prepping your quilt top properly, choosing and marking designs on your quilt, and selecting batting and backings will all be covered in this class. Threads, needles and tension and their relationship to finishing quilts will be discussed. Bring one of your finished quilt tops, if you like, to explore different design ideas for your quilt.

Are you a sit-down quilter? Are you longing for more space to finish the biggest quilts? We’ll explore all the essentials of stationary longarm machine quilting. Starting with picking the right thread, then moving on to methods of basting your quilt, we’ll look at all aspects of quilting on a stationary longarm machine. The machine’s features make free-motion quilting simple, and adding fun tips and tools open up a world of options for finishing all of those quilts!

Love feathers but are afraid to try them? You will conquer your feather fears in this class. We’ll start with easy ways to quilt beautiful feathers. Building off a basic spine, you’ll learn how to draw different types of feather plumes, their stitch paths, and how to make them fit into lots of different spaces. We’ll explore putting the perfect feather into a border and even quilting around the corner. Soon you’ll be quilting feathers on all your quilts!

Do you love rulers? But are you still looking for new ways to use them? In this class, we’ll focus on building an inventory of design ideas using the HQ VersaTool and other HQ rulers. Point to point quilting using markings already on your quilt – like seams or corners – is a cinch with rulers. We’ll start with ruler basics, then move on to creating beautiful designs for your entire quilt.

We’ll add echoing, exciting backgrounds, and complementary designs to create a masterpiece. Starting with sketching out your ideas, we’ll move on to marking tools to get all your great ideas on your quilt, and then looking at how thread can really make designs pop.
