Free Motion Quilting - Stationary Machine (domestic or sit down)

Basic Bargello

Bargello quilts look challenging, but they are really easy to sew. In this class, students will have a choice
of working on a tablerunner or wall hanging size quilt or a larger lap size quilt. Students will learn how
to sew exact ¼” seams and how to measure and cut these strips accurately. Students will also learn
how to press seams for perfect piecing. Both of these quilts are made with 2 ½” strip sets.

Thornhill Patch

In this introduction to quilting we are going to focus on accurate cutting, sewing, pressing and borders. This class has been designed for beginners as well as more intermediate quilters who want to improve their piecing skills. We've chosen a simple 9 patch block for the quilt. We'll teach you how to measure and sew borders for a perfectly flat quilt.

Serger Basics

Learn how easy it is to thread your serger, get perfect tension and trouble shoot a variety of common issues.

This class is for those who have a new serger, have a serger in their closet that they haven’t used in a while or those interested in purchasing a and want to find out what sergers an do. We will have a serger or two available for rental ($25).

In this class you will learn how to thread the machine, learn how to adjust the machine to get perfect tension and play with the various stitches available on a variety of sergers.

Placemats, Table Runner and Binding

Spend the day or a portion of it at Meadow Rose's studio. The studio will be open from 9am to 9pm. Join us for all or part of the day. Learn what you want to learn. This class is a "choose your own adventure" where you will decided what you want to work on and I'll show you what you need to learn.We'll cut and sew strips of fabric and sew these great placemats and tablerunners. I'll help you plan and decide on the width and number of strips and show you how to arrange and sew the units. ;Every placemat or table runner will be different.

Binding also seems to challenge some sewers.  Learn how to determine how wide to cut binding strips, how to stitch it to your project and how to achieve perfectly mitered corners and a no show finish! &nbsp

Beginner Sewing

This beginner class is for those who haven’t sewn before or who haven’t sewn for a long time. Students will make two sewing related projects while they learn how to use a sewing machine and sewing tools.
Learn the parts of the sewing machine and the tools needed to complete most projects
Learn to thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin
Learn how to select machine stitch pattern
Learn how to adjust tension, stitch length and width
Learn to read a sewing pattern
Learn to lay out and cut out fabric according to pattern instructions
Learn to sew straight seams
Learn how to sew a buttonhole and hand sew a button in place
Sew a “sewing tidy and pin cushion” and a snap bag

FMQ - BASICS

Learn the basic sof the 5 shapes that make up all Free Motion Quilting designs and the foundation for all future Free Motion Quilitng. Learn how to set up your machine, the basic mechanics of Free Motion Qulting and how to stitch the 5 basic shapes. This class is ideal for those who have never tried FMQ before, but is also a valuable refresher for those with some experience.

FMQ - NEXT STEPS

Students will gain confidence in their Free Motion Quilting by taking what they learned in the Beyond Meandering and Loops class and learn how to put the basic shapes together to create a variety of quilting motifs. his class will give students the opportunity to create their own quilting motifs for greater personal expression.

FMQ - SASHING & BORDERS

Learn how to choose and stitch a variety of designs that are perfect for long narrow spaces. We'll focus on some basic designs for fullest effect.

FMQ - FLOWERS AND LEAVES

Learn how to use the 5 basic shapes to create a vareity of flower and leaf motifs. Students will learn how easy it is to make one little change for a whole new look. Who knew there were so many flowers and leaves!

FMQ - BASIC FEATHER

Learn how easy it is to stitch the basic feather. We'll focus on technique as we explore sizes, shapes and stitching in a variety of directions. Learn how to stitch wreaths, borders and all over designs on your stationary (sit down) machine.

FMQ - BOUNCE BACK FEATHERS

Free Motion Quilitng Feathers are beautiful and not as difficult as many people think they are. In this class we'll focus on the style of feathers that a lot refer to as Longarm Feathers, but we can do them on our stationary machines. We'll play withy the shape and the size and add a variety of design elements.

FMQ - QUILTING WITH RULERS

Learn some basic informtion about rulers, how to use them for accurate quilting anbd stitch a small quilt while we practice free motion quilting with ;rulers. We will focus on straigh line and sahhow curved rulers.
