Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along - #4, Swirl Blocks

It's Step #4 of the Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along. Let's get started right away. We've completed the Star blocks and now we are moving on to the Swirl blocks. Print the PDF pattern for this page of the instructions. For this block we'll need the Large Square Squared tool from Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Designs. I have some available for sale if you need to purchase one. There are 3 different Square Squared tools. We want the LARGE. There are 2 parts to this tool, an A and a B. I'll show you have to use both parts. Now, I have a confession and apology to make. I got carried away making the Swirl Blocks and was almost completely done and realized that I hadn't done any video! I've

A Wedding Anniversary quilt

As my parents approached their 40th wedding anniversary, I wanted to do something special for them and decided to make this quilt. I found a book years ago about bookcase quilts. Can't find the book and don't remember it's name or the author. It was fun to have the pictures reproduced on fabric and to plan each shelf of the quilt. When my parents were downsizing a few years ago, we went to Winnipeg to help them organize and decide what they would keep and what they could pass on. They knew they wouldn't have room for this quilt and I grabbed it to bring it home. When I made it, I wanted the quilt to be a celebration of their lives together. The horse is a representation of a toy my grandf

Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along - #2, cutting units and Large Flying Geese

It's Step #2 of the Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along. Let's get started right away. I've had a complaint....actually a request to post the blog on Fridays so you have the weekend to sew. Since this post is ready, I'm posting today, Friday. I've got a few videos of the Flying Geese process. Watch them as well as read and follow the instructions. I don't say it in the videos, but you may just want to cut units for the Large Flying Geese only. See how you get on and then do more cutting as you need it. I will be honest, I often rush ahead and make mistakes! Take it slow, one step at a time and you'll do fine. Print off the pattern and you'll see that I've set up the cutting instructio

Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along - #3, Small Flying Geese and put the star blocks together.

It's Step #3 of the Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along. Let's finish the star blocks. We've sewn and trimmed the larger of the flying geese for both the dark stars (dark geese) and the light stars (light geese). Let's get the smaller geese sewn and trimmed and put these lovely blocks together. Here's the Pattern PDF again in case you need it. It includes the steps to completing the entire blocks. We'll now be working with the 4 1/2" large squares and the 2 1/2" small squares. You can also cut the 3 1/2" and the 2" squares so that everything is ready to complete the star blocks. Don't forget to store them on the paper plates. Move the Quilter's Glow Tape if you want. Here I added the y

Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along - #1, Lets Get Started!

It's Week 1 of the Stars & Swirls Summer 2020 Quilt Along. Are you ready??? Check the post from last week for the invitation. This week, we are going to review the supply list and make sure we have what we need to get started as well as get started on some cutting. But first, the inspiration for my sample quilt. I, like many spend time each day looking through some of the remarkable images on instagram. I was introduced to a gentleman by the name of Keith BrymerJones. He is a potter in the UK and looking at some of the images, lives near the southern coast. I just loved this image and decided that it would be inspiration for this quilt. I'm recording some videos for each step and I hope
