I signed up for the April 2025 Monthly Block Challenge with other Studio 180 Design Certified Instructors. The rules/guidelines:
Week 1: Fabric Pull - what fabrics I am planning to use for the block
Week 2: Sneak Peek - Show part of the block being put together or trimmed down.
Week 3: The Reveal - Show your completed block.
It's Week 2 and I'm to show part of the block. I need to make Flying Geese Units, Non-Mirror Combo Units and Half Square Triangles.
I am hoping to make 2 different layouts of the blocks so will be making 2 different sets of Flying Geese units.
Flying Geese are made using the 4 at a time or no-waste sewing techniques.
For Block 1, I've made 13 sets (4) of flying geese. The background (small triangles) fabrics are the same on both sides. My plan was to make 12 sets, but somehow, I can't count and have made 13, so I'll adjust the Block 2 numbers.

For Block 2, I've made 12 sets (4) of flying geese, but there is a catch. The background fabrics are different on each side of the geese unit! I've used the Geese of a Feather technique sheet. The instructions are quite easy to follow.

For both of these blocks I'll need 4 Half Square Triangles (HST). I've made these using the Eight at Once technique. Here I've got my 8 HST for Block 2. Half of them have been trimmed to 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"!

The final units that I'm making are Combination Units or Half Quarter Square Triangles. I like the term Combination Units. These units are made using the Non Mirror Combo Units Technique sheet. They are a bit fussy, simply requiring me to pay attention and not watch TV while I'm sewing these! The image below shows 2 units trimmed and 2 units untrimmed.

My units for all my blocks are pieced and precision trimmed to the required size and ready to sew together into each of the 2 different blocks. Let's hope I can sew the correct units together for each block!

I've got a busy few days ahead to sew my blocks together and get my little quilt top finished to show off next week.
See you next week: April 24 the final result.
