Summer Classes

Thought I'd give a quick update on the Meadow Rose Studios and some information about summer classes. In the next week I'll be sharing more posts about my recent finishes for my Challenge 2017/18 quilts.

Update. In the last month and a half I've slept in 5 different beds that are not my own....I've been travelling and visiting all over Western Canada.

Bed 1: We started by spending a weekend in Parksville on Vancouver Island for my nephew's wedding.

Bed 2: I came home for a few nights and then headed off to Vancouver for Quilt Canada. I was privileged to work with some wonderful people from Handi Quilter and the staff of Central Sewing Machines and Handi Quilter Canada in Edmonton. We "manned" the Handi Quilter booth and supervised students and machines in the longarm classes.

Bed 3: I moved hotels and visited with my daughter in Vancouver for a few days. Her apartment is 'not big enough for the 2 of us' and her partner. It was easier for all of us to have some space for ourselves so I stayed in a hotel.

Bed 4: I flew directly from Vancouver to Winnipeg for my parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary. Hubby joined me there and the guest suite at their complex was already booked by my Uncle and and his Wife who surprised my folks, so we stayed in a hotel!

Bed 5; Back home for a few more nights then up to Edmonton for Handi Quilter Retailer Training. Chris, Rod and I had a blast sharing Handi Quilter products and teaching Canadian Retailers all about our products.

Summer Classes: I've been teaching this year at Pinheads Quilting Company in Airdrie. Cathy and Lori are true sweeties and I love shopping and teaching there. Class sizes are small so everyone get individual attention. Some classes this summer will be offered at Pinheads and some at my Studio (AKA my basement!). The following classes have been planned with more to be scheduled.

  • Free Motion Quilting - Basics, Wednesday, July 4 9am-noon. Class will be held at Pinheads. Learn the basics of 5 shapes that make up all FMQ designs and the foundation for all future FMQ. Learn how to set up your machine, the basic mechanics of FMQ, and how to stitch the 5 basic shapes. This class is ideal for those who have never tried FMQ before, but is also a valuable refresher for those have some experience.

  • Hand Dyed Fabrics - Exploring Colour, Wednesday, July 18 10am-2pm at Meadow Rose Quilting Studio. Get a taste of fabric dyeing in this introductory class. We'll learn the basics of dyeing FQs of fabric and learn how to do a bit of colour theory. All fabrics, dyes and chemicals included.

  • Longarm Quilting Basics, Wednesday July 18 1:30-4:30pm. Join me in my studio and learn how to use a longarm. We'll cover basics like loading a quilt, how to use the machine properly and learn a few simple edge to edge free hand quilting designs. We'll also cover stitching pantographs. This is a great class for anyone who wants to rent my machines or is thinking of investing in a longarm.

  • Sew/Quilt Days, Join me in my studio between 9am and 9pm to sew/quilt and play on Tuesdays July 10, 24 and August 7 and 21. $20 for any amount of time and you have access to my tools and any help or instruction I can give you. This time is participant directed and pretty much anything goes!

Check the Meadow Rose Quilting website and the Pinheads Quilting website for other classes that we'll be scheduling throughout the summer. If there is something you would like to do this summer, please contact me or Cathy at Pinheads.

To register for any of the classes held at Pinheads Quilting Company, call them directly at 587-978-9151. For classes and events offered at Meadow Rose Studios, please contact me at 403-819-8126.

Have a great end to June and a great Canada Day weekend!

Allison
