Weekend shout out!

It's not the weekend, but since I missed last weekend and I'm away this weekend, we'll consider this my shout out for this week and next week.

In the Studio

I've had a great response to my August sale. I will be busy quilting in the next few months! Every quilt that came in was different and although some of them are a bit daunting (size and design) I am looking forward to getting them on my frame in the next few months. Yes, I will be working on them for the next few months as I have a fair bit of travelling coming up this month and my customers aren't in any rush! Yea!

I re-arranged this week. You know that feeling you get when you walk into a space and want to turn around and leave? Yep, that's what I was experiencing when I came into the studio. I rotated AMY-JOY (my Handi Quilter Amara) and have moved her closer to the wall. I don't have rear handles on, so there was no need for lots of room behind her. I now have lots of walking and moving space on the front side. I also moved my design wall for easier access.

Take a quick look at my calendar and you'll see that the next few months are going to be busy. I won't schedule any formal open sew days, but if I'm here, the studio will be open and renters and sewers are welcome to join me. Just give me a shout (403-819-8126) to book time.

On the Calendar

I've taken a lot of hours lately to work on my fall schedule. I am excited to report that I'll be teaching children's sewing classes in Airdrie at Pinheads Quilting Company and down south Calgary at My Sewing Room.

Teaching Kids to Sew was the highlight of my days when I owned Needleworks, and I am so very glad that both these stores are giving me an opportunity to teach for them and hopefully inspire new generations of sewers! All the children start by sewing a tote bag. The tote bag is very basic but the kids get lots of practise sewing straight lines. Their 2nd project is the binder cover. In this project they practise threading the machine and selecting decorative stitches. The binder cover and the tote bag become their sewing kit and the stuff bag and double sided blanket are 2 of the the follow up projects.

I'll also be teaching a longarm club and a Pro-Stitcher Premium club at My Sewing Room. Woot Woot!

On the Road

I've just updated the calendar of my teaching schedule. I've included the link to specific stores where I am teaching this year. Contact them directly to get more details or to register.

I'm busy packing this morning for my road trip to Edmonton's Creative Festival. Check out page 14 of the brochure to see the classes I'm teaching. I'll be repeating these plus a few more at Calgary's Creative Festival. Check page 20 of the Calgary brochure to see what I'm doing.

I've already booked a few "talks" with local quilt and sewing groups. Contact me directly if you would like me to come and visit your group and talk about anything quilting related.

It's time to finish packing for my drive to Edmonton tomorrow and get myself organized for the first meeting of the Heritage Park Quilt Guild for the fall.

Have a great week sewing and quilting.
