We've reached the last post of the May Blockbuster Challenge with other Studio 180 Design Certified Instructors. We've been working on Blockbuster 22 - Square Dance.
Here were the rules/guidelines:
Week 1: Fabric Pull - what fabrics I am planning to use for the block
Week 2: Sneak Peek - Show part of the block being put together or trimmed down.
Week 3: The Reveal - Show your completed block.
I chose to really change things up this month and make 12" blocks (instead of 4" blocks) using a wide variety of Hand Dyed Fat Quarters. I chose to make a whole quilt and used my EQ8 software to help me with the design.

Sometimes I cheat and snip my seam allowances so I can press a small section of the seam in the opposite direction. By opening this section of the seam, I can pin at the exact intersection of the seams. This also reduces the bulk but allows the seam at the point of the flying geese unit to press neatly in the direction that works best.

Wow, look at that stitching line!

And on the right side of the seam. Perfect!!!!

In addition to the Flying Geese units, I needed to piece 4 Squared Square units. I had originally planned for light centers to the block, but after laying out a few blocks, I decided on the blue centers. This way, I'll have a nice big blue diamond for some fun quilting. I'll probably quilt the same design in all the blue diamonds.
Unfortunately, I didn't have sufficient blue in a single piece of hand dyed fabric for the border and am not sure I like the pieced border. The finished quilt measure 49" square before the border, so it would be a good size to finish as a lap quilt. I may just leave the border off. We'll see.

The sashing and corner post were a fun way to use up even the smallest scraps of my pink and white Fat Quarters.
