It has been a while.....

It's been a while since I last wrote a blog post. My only excuse is that I have been busy.

HANDI QUILTER EVENT:

I was recently in Belleville Ontario at Fun with Stitches for a Handi Quilter Event. Gail and her staff looked after me well. I was quite anxious about the early morning flight and then car rental and the 2 hour drive from Pearson International Airport on the 401 to Belleville. I DID IT! I am quite proud of myself. We rent a lot but hubby usually drives and I navigate.

I did some staff training on Thursday evening on the Handi Quilter Avante and Simply Sixteen and as we were a small group we started at 4:30 instead of 6pm so we could end early! Friday and Saturday I was up early (Ontario is 2 hours ahead of Calgary) and had 4 Handi Quilter classes. We looked at Edge to Edge quilting on the quilt, Blocks Borders and Background ideas, Creative Textures and Fills, and Custom Waves Curves and Circles.

We had mostly the same group of ladies for the 4 classes and I think all went well. Martha got stuck behind an accident on the 401 on Friday afternoon and showed up late. She came back on Saturday and said that it was well worth her time! Yeah me!

We had a couple of quilt tops in and spent some time as a group discussing how we would quilt them based on what we had learned in the classes.

If you are ever in the area, visit Gail and her staff at Fun with Stitches. She has recently moved into a new location and the old house she is in is full of rooms of great surprises. She has a super great selection of Batiks and I did really well by not buying everything I saw!

My 2 hour drive became 3 on my way back to the airport, I think mainly to the setting sun and poor visibility. I made it in plenty of time for my flight and everything I took with me, came home! I'm now home and trying to unpack and clean up the mess I made in my frantic panic to get packed before my trip

CALGARY LONGARM GROUP DISPLAY:

I am so very luck to belong to a great group of quilters here in Calgary. We meet on a monthly basis to share our work and learn from each other. Many of the local quilt shops and businesses are very generous to allow us to meet in their space.

This summer we were offered a wonderful opportunity. For the month of November, we have a selection of our quilts on display at Fish Creek Library in south Calgary. I'm not sure of the final count, but there are a lot of quilts hanging on display.

We all agreed this is a great way to display the varied work our members do.

We also submit a group display or two each year at the Heritage Park Festival of Quilts. Check out both these opportunities to view some truly excellent work!

60 DEGREE PLACEMATS AND BINDING:

I'm opening my studio from 9am to 9pm on Tuesday, November 15 for anyone who wants to come and learn how to sew and cut 60 degree triangles and make a placemat and/or learn how to successfully stitch binding to a quilt. Check the previous blog post and the website for all details.
